I think my main goal in all of this will be to make good use of all of the free time I have, whether that's one hour between classes, or five hours at the end of the day. While that doesn't mean I have to study 24/7, it does mean that I have to carefully plan every day to make the most of my time. I know now that I have more than enough time to complete my English 109H homework as well as all of the other homework I have; it's just a matter of sticking to my schedule and making use of all of my time.
Reflection
My classmates' calendar reflections made me realize that I am not alone in this time management struggle. Most of us are new to the college life, and it's definitely making us all rethink our priorities.
- Sam's post helped me realize that there is, in fact, more than enough time to complete all of my homework; it's just a matter of sticking to my schedule. I really liked her idea of scheduling some "blog thinking time" while waiting in lines for food. It goes to show that, even when I'm not technically studying or working, I can plan ahead during the little bits of spare time I get.
- Victoria's post gave me some more ideas I can implement in my own schedule to ensure that I make good use of my time. I particularly liked her idea of spacing time out evenly throughout the week. I frequently find myself spacing my time out unevenly depending on my class schedule, and that only ends up adding to my stress. I will definitely need to learn to spread out my work throughout the week so that I am successful this semester.
Who would have thought the time would just fly by once school actually began? I remember looking at my schedule on UAccess and feeling stressed by how clustered some of my classes looked. After going through this first week of school I realized that it actually won't be that bad, and that I have plenty of time to get work done. The little hour breaks between classes really do add up, and it's surprising the amount of work that I am able to get done in so little time. Completing this activity showed me that I can get all of my work done for my major and still have an abundance of time left to work on my music minor. It'll be much easier to accomplish once I can get myself into a routine. Cheers to creating schedules and hopefully sticking to them! You're going to do great!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that I find myself with more time than I had anticipated. I thought I would be totally overwhelmed with the 18 units I'm taking, but I have a two-hour break here, a chunk of time here, etc. The first week was fun and not as bad as I thought it would be, yet it was syllabus week, so I am kind of still wary of how the rest of the semester is going to pan out. I have so much free time that I don't know what to do with, and when I filled in the sleep columns, I was being realistic about getting 6 to 7 hours of sleep a night. Sticking to my schedule will by far be the hardest thing I will have to do.
ReplyDeleteHey there, I'm from section 3--Bottai's 8 AM class--and we're asking questions directed towards your development as a writer and such over the year. I know, I know... it's a bit odd seeing someone from a different section commenting on a post you wrote almost 3 1/2 months ago, but nonetheless:
ReplyDeleteHow well would you say you stuck to your original plan?
Do you feel different about a college workload now that your first semester is over?
How much did you "carefully plan" your time, and how much was left up to procrastination? (Our class personally procrastinated a ton, apparently--me probably the most out of everyone)
Hopefully, over the last few months you learned some important lessons about time management. You're like me--you had a few classes with an hour in between them and lots of free time. How well do you think you utilized that free time, though?
